Carolyn
Withers was nominated by someone who is so extremely proud of her that
it was evident from the very first email we received.
Upon meeting her it was very evident why, she has a very outgoing personality
and endears herself to those she meets.
Many of you long timers may
remember Carolyn from the days when she represented Roy Rogers, (during
the Fick family era), at the various functions they participated in.
This cowgirl would joyfully represent the Ficks and the Roy Rogers employees.
You could have seen her at fundraisers, area celebrations or in the restaurant
providing good will towards the patrons.
Shortly after Roy Rogers
changed hands Carolyn resigned due to family obligations. It was
a difficult decision but she stills knows she made the correct one.
During her time at Roy Rogers
she was afforded the opportunity to do radio and television commercials.
She no longer does those but looks back on them with fondness and delight
at having been given the chance.
Currently, as it has been
for the last 10 years, you are able to find Carolyn at the Cracker Barrel
in Massaponax, part-time, serving up home cooked meals to those who have
a hankering for it. When we asked her to describe herself, she came back
by saying she is a people person and really loves to interact with them.
She has met many people during her time there and plans to continue to
do so for a number of years to come. It was immediately obvious to
us that she loves what she does when we visited her there. She is
very attentive to her customers and appears at just the right moment to
provide you with either a refill or a suggestion of something else.
She has been employee of
the year for Cracker Barrel and has even won a Hospitality Award from the
Chamber of Commerce, for simply being the outgoing personable person that
makes up who she is. And one of the striking things about her is
that she takes none of it for granted. She didn’t presume that she
deserved the recognition, as is the normal way of thinking today, she accepts
it as an honor and still delights over it 8 years later.
When we told her that she
had been nominated as a person of the month, she seemed a little stunned
for a moment but bounced right back and continued on with our conversation.
She was a delight for us to meet and spend time with. We look forward
to seeing her the next time we stop in at Cracker Barrel for a bite to
eat.
We, however, know not to
visit on Monday or Thursdays, as those are the days she spends with her
family. So until we see you again Carolyn, congratulations!
