Ferry Farm was the boyhood home of George
Washington. This is the home where he threw the fabled penny across
the River and chopped down the cherry tree.
While neither are believed to be true
according to documentation it was nonetheless his home. You won’t
find much of the original home and outbuildings in existence, however,
it is still a wonderful place to visit as you’ll get to view an archeological
dig site and view the believed locations of where some of the buildings
once stood.
With a vivid imagination you can imagine
George himself having walked on some of the same ground you’re now walking
on. Our group had the most fun wondering around the grounds exploring and
just enjoying the day. There is a path leading down to the River,
which is most enjoyable. You’ll also find a path just off that one
that was part of a road used back in the 1700’s.
This would be a place to bring a class
to learn and explore. Don’t forget your picnic lunch in any case,
as it is a perfect place to have one. Have a quiet relaxing afternoon
and return to a bygone century. We did!
